Salman Khan Gets Relief from Bombay HC

Salman Khan’s fans can rejoice as the actor has received relief from the Bombay High Court in his assault case from 2019. The actor’s summons has also been canceled, and he is not required to appear in the Andheri court. The Bombay High Court mandated that the Complaint filed against Salman be dismissed. An FIR for assault was filed against the actor in 2019 by journalist Ashok Pandey.

What is the Case of Salman Khan?

Single-judge Justice Bharati Dangre passed the order on Thursday morning. Salman Khan moved the High Court, challenging a summons order passed on the complaint of a journalist who claimed that the actor was cycling on the streets of Mumbai when he got into a scuffle with the scribe and snatched his phone.

The DN Nagar police station, where the complaint was lodged, was asked to submit a report to the Magistrate Court. The Magistrate determined there was enough evidence to proceed against Khan based on the “positive police report” required by Section 202 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) and other evidence.

The Magistrate invited the accused to appear personally in court after observing that charges have been made out against him under Sections 504 (intentional insult with intent to incite a breach of peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Criminal Code.

Khan then moved to the High Court, which stayed the order in April 2022. Khan also sought the quashing of the complaint against him. Senior Advocate Aabad Ponda, appearing for Khan, submitted that he had only asked his bodyguards to stop the journalist from shooting photos and videos of him.

Ponda, along with advocates Agasthya Desai and Vikram Sutaria, was briefed by a team from DSK Legal, including managing partner Anand Desai and partners Chandrima Mitra and Parag Khandhar.
