Jyotirmayee Mohanty’s Journey from Odisha to the World to Becoming a Trailblazing Scientist: Jyotirmayee Mohanty, daughter of the renowned pediatrician Dr. Baikuntnath Patra from Chauliaganj in Cuttack, is married to Rasmiranjan Mohanty, a scientist from Titira village under Balikuda block in Jagatsinghpur. She has achieved several milestones in her career, including being the first woman to receive a fellowship from the Science and Engineering Research Board. In addition, she was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) in the United Kingdom last year.

IUPAC Award Announcement

In celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) announced the names of 12 awardees on February 11. The awards ceremony was established as part of the 2011 International Year of Chemistry festivities and is now an annual event that recognizes and promotes the achievements of women chemists and chemical engineers from around the world. Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik Congratulation Tweet for Jyotirmayee Mohanty

On Sunday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik congratulated Jyotirmayee Mohanty, a scientist from Odisha working at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in Mumbai, for becoming the first Indian woman to receive the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) Award 2023.

Naveen took to his personal Twitter account and expressed his admiration, saying, “I extend my heartiest congratulations to Jyotirmayee Mohanty, an Odia scientist, who has been conferred with the prestigious IUPAC Award 2023 @IUPAC as the first Indian woman. Her outstanding contribution to the field of chemistry fills us with pride and glory. I wish her greater heights of success in the future.”
