Chetan Sharma Chief Selector of BCCI

Chetan Sharma has resigned from his position as Chief Selector of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) following the release of a sting video. The video allegedly showed Sharma discussing team selection and other sensitive issues with an undercover reporter. In his resignation letter, Sharma cited the need to maintain the integrity and sanctity of the selection process as the reason for stepping down from his post. He also expressed his disappointment that his trust was breached by the undercover reporter.

The BCCI has not yet officially commented on Sharma’s resignation or the sting video, but the incident is likely to raise questions about the transparency and fairness of the selection process for the Indian cricket team.

Ishan and Gill’s Exceptional form & Potential of Sanju Samson

In a recent sting video, Chetan Sharma discussed the exceptional white-ball performances of young players Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill. He highlighted Kishan’s outstanding performance and double century against Bangladesh in the third ODI in December 2020, where Kishan scored 210 runs off 126 balls, hitting 24 fours and 10 sixes. Sharma also suggested that Samson might make a comeback to the Indian team, as the recent performances of Kishan and Gill have put the careers of Sanju Samson, KL Rahul, and Shikhar Dhawan in jeopardy.

Jasprit Bumrah’s Injury

In reference to Jasprit Bumrah’s back injury and his quick return to the field, Chetan Sharma said that Bumrah was in such intense pain that he couldn’t even bend due to the severity of his injury. Furthermore, Sharma noted that there are some players who receive private injections and then falsely claim to be fit to play in the game.

Virat Kohli vs Sourav Ganguly Row

Recent sting operation, Chetan Sharma claimed that Sourav Ganguly did not remove Virat Kohli as captain of the Indian cricket team. According to Sharma, Kohli may have misunderstood Ganguly during a selection committee’s video conference, leading to unnecessary controversy. Sharma further explained that Ganguly may have said “think about it once,” but Kohli might not have heard it because of the presence of nine other people, including other selectors and BCCI officials.

Sting Video Highlights on Virat Kohli vs Rohit Sharma

Chetan Sharma, in a sting operation, suggested that while there may not be an overt conflict between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, both of these cricketing superstars have a certain degree of nature. “I wouldn’t go as far as saying that there is a rivalry between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, but it’s fair to say that both of them have a level of self-importance. They are like big stars in Indian cricket like movie stars,” he stated.

Chetan Sharma Alleged Kohli

Chetan Sharma alleged that Kohli, who had become a major superstar, chose to go after Ganguly, thinking he could take on anyone. Despite Ganguly never speaking to Sharma about the issue, Kohli attacked him. Sharma considered the press conference before the IND vs SA series, where Kohli revealed he was informed only 1.30 hours prior to the announcement that he would be stepping down as captain, as unnecessary and an attempt to get back at Sourav.

According to chief selector Chetan Sharma, Virat Kohli lost the ODI captaincy because the selectors wanted to have only one white-ball captain. Kohli had already stepped down from the T20 captaincy in 2021, and the selectors decided to remove him from the ODI captaincy as well, as part of their normal procedure. Sharma clarified that it is the job of the selectors to make decisions about captaincy and that Kohli was aware of this. The selectors had made up their minds to remove Kohli from the ODI captaincy after he announced that he was giving up the T20I captaincy

Favouritism in Team India

Chetan Sharma claimed that there is no favoritism in the team selection process, but the captains tend to have a preferred group of players.

Cricketers Take Injections to Fake Fitness

Chief Selector Chetan Sharma said cricketers who take injections to fake fitness have their own doctors outside of cricket who are available to provide them with shots so that they can be deemed fully fit ahead of crucial tournaments. “They are big superstars. Do they really face a shortage of doctors? They can have them come to their house after making a phone call and he will give them an injection,” Sharma said on the Sting video operation.
